A PERFECT FIT is the story of Nicole, a college sophomore involved in her first lesbian relationship. Nicole’s exploration of her sexuality has caused her mother Janet to begin questioning her own marriage and her own assumptions. Then there’s Janet’s friend Melinda, who’s newly divorced and wants nothing more than the stable family life that Janet has…or seems to. A Perfect Fit asks hard questions about what it takes to be happy as a woman in the 21st century.

Playwright Lia Romeo was inspired by an article in The Guardian entitled “Why It’s Never Too Late to Be a Lesbian”, about how more and more women are coming out late in life, after having fallen in love with men and often married and had children. According to Ms. Romeo, “That was the initial inspiration for A Perfect Fit, and then I used the issue of sexuality to explore a range of questions about the choices that today’s young women have compared to the choices that women had in the past.”

“What drew me to this script is its honesty, its simplicity, its heart,” explains director Cher Laston. As she takes on her sixth production with Vermont Pride Theater, she will guide a stellar cast: Leah Romano (Norwich), Marissa Mattogno (Williamstown), Rae Merrill (Braintree), Lindsay Stratton (Hanover, NH), and Andra Kisler (Northfield).

Performance dates for this world premiere are Saturday July 21st and Sunday July 29th, both at 7:30 PM.
