The winners in Chandler’s 2017 competition for new plays on current social issues written by Vermont playwrights are Emily Rosenbaum of Stowe, Margot Lasher of East Montpelier, and Maura Campbell of Burlington.

On the last Sundays of February, March, and April, their three prize-winning scripts will be produced in staged readings in Chandler’s Upper Gallery, as the Issues Play Series. With a 7 PM start, each reading will be followed by a talkback for actors and audiences to give feedback to the authors, who will attend. Complimentary refreshments will be available between the readings and the talkbacks.

Sunday February 25th: Emily Rosenbaum’s play Precession, directed by Mike Backman, tells of two young men caught up in an interrogation program just after World War II. Based on an historical incident, it poses the age-old questions of science vs. humanity, and leaves the audience asking both how these questions pertain to our age and if these will ever be resolved.

Tickets for adults are $10 in advance or $12 day-of-show. Full-series adult passes can be purchased for $25. Student tickets are $5 at all times. Tickets can be ordered by calling the Chandler Box Office at (802) 728-6464 between noon and 4 PM weekdays.

Sponsored by the Walter Cerf Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation, the biennial Issues Play initiative is intended to increase support for playwrights, directors, actors, and others involved with theater development and production in Vermont.
