Masters of the Celtic Harp featuring Gráinne Hambly & William Jackson @ Chandler Center for the Arts | Randolph | Vermont | United States

William Jackson has been a major figure in traditional Scottish music since he was a founding member of the influential folk group, Ossian, in 1976. He has performed at many prestigious festivals, including at the acclaimed international harp festivals in Edinburgh and Rio de Janeiro. As part of a career-long effort to combine traditional and classical music, William has composed for and performed with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Asheville Symphony Orchestra. Touring extensively for the past 15 years, Gráinne Hambly breaks the genteel parlor image of her instrument, elevating the Celtic harp right up there with the fiddles and pipes in the realm of dynamic Irish dance music. Rarely have Irish and Scottish music been arranged together with such finesse and creative success as by these two artists. Besides the contrasting and complimentary sounds and styles of the harps, their performances also include concertina, whistle, and bouzouki. Irish Music Magazine sums it up best: Gráinne and William serve up “soaring airs and more down-to-earth dance music – and both genres are beautifully handled.”
