NINTH ANNUAL SUMMER PRIDE THEATER FESTIVAL AT CHANDLER
CALL TO AUDITIONS: SUNDAY MARCH 31ST
ALL TOGETHER NOW by Philip Middleton Williams, Director: Amanda Rafuse
A LATE SNOW by Jane Chambers, Director: Danielle Sessler
For its ninth annual summer pride festival, Vermont Pride Theater is presenting ALL TOGETHER NOW by Philip Middleton Williams and A LATE SNOW by Jane Chambers, as well as a newly commissioned script titled GROWING UP LGBTQ IN RURAL VERMONT by Maura Campbell. For the first two plays, we’re seeking men and women of all ages with a passion for theater, fun, and our community. Experience welcome, but not required. The third play will be cast with the interviewees who shared their lives with Ms. Campbell.
ALL TOGETHER NOW is the story of Paul and Adam, a gay couple living together happily in Miami. One morning the doorbell rings and in walks Fox, age 15, just off the plane from Santa Fe, who tells them that he is Paul’s son and that he wants to live with them. To share in this staggering news are Paul’s parents Jim and Dorothy, and after an all-day frantic trip from Santa Fe, Fox’s mother, Julie. This life-changing moment touches them all: Paul and Adam, who are discussing marriage; Julie and Fox, who are coming to terms with him growing into adulthood, and Jim and Dorothy, who never expected to be grandparents. Initially developed with South Florida Theatre League and Actors’ Playhouse of Coral Gables, All Together Now won The Playgroup’s Full-Length Play Contest 2016 and received its world premiere in 2018 at Willow Theater in Boca Raton, FL.
A LATE SNOW , written in the late 1960s, is the story of college professor Ellie. She shows up at her lakeside cabin with well-known writer Margo, whom Ellie wants to recruit both to teach at her college and to be her new lover. Unbeknownst to Ellie, her alcoholic former lover Pat and her current lover young Quincey are already at the cabin. Complications ensue, as Ellie woos Margo while disguising her relationships with the others. To make things worse, Ellie’s unhappily married college roommate Peggy arrives just as a late-spring snowstorm descends upon the cabin, ending a comedic first act. The second act turns serious, as the women wrestle with the forces pulling them together and driving them apart and Ellie struggles to understand what’s needed to build a long-term relationship. A Late Snow was first produced by Playwrights Horizons, at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts, in 1974.
