Myra Flynn: Album Release Show

Flynn, a graduate of Randolph Union High School, first sang for an audience at a Mud Season Talent Show at Chandler, and has credited the venue's music classes and special events with shaping her earliest development as a performer. Since then, she's built a career that spans indie-soul songwriting, national press, and work as a journalist. During he five year tenure at Vermont Public, Flynn created and produced the podcast Homegoings, which appeared as a live program on the Chandler Music Hall stage in 2024. Earlier this year, she went independent with the show, which is now distributed by PRX.

Flynn spends her career embracing dichotomy. Both Irish and African American, her original indie/soul songs blend soulful vocals with a lyrical delivery that doesn’t let one get too comfortable. As the New England Deli Magazine puts it, “Her vocal influences have as much in common with Ani Difranco and Shawn Colvin as they do with Rihanna and Jill Scott.

Flynn spent her Vermont childhood clad in leopard print and platform shoes, singing and dancing atop anything that looked remotely like a stage. These days, not much has changed. She has since shared stages with: Ivan Neville (Dumpstaphunk), Mike Gordon (Phish) , Gabrielle Gordon (Natalie Merchant), Sonya Kitchell, Rayvon, Res, Alexa Ray Joel, Slick Rick, Anais Mitchell and Lee “Scratch” Perry.

Flynn's sound has been described as a blend of soul, indie, folk, and R&B — a lyrical, uncategorizable style that uses her voice to empower, inspire, and even educate. Reviewing her album Half Pigeon, Seven Days singled out her range, noting she can move from the organic warmth of Alabama Shakes to channeling Janet Jackson at her danciest — often within a single song. Her 2023 release Shadow Work drew similar praise, with the paper calling out her ability to hold complicated, conflicting emotions inside the same song.

Expect an intimate night of brand new music — from soulful, honey-rich ballads to full-band energy — performed by an artist Vermont has watched grow from a teenager on Chandler's stage into a nationally recognized voice in indie-soul.
