Ernesto Villalobos was born in Veracruz and grew up listening to his grandmother Cristina play the captivating rhythms of traditional Mexican music.

At the age of 18, Ernesto was recognized as the youngest-ever recipient of a Fulbright scholarship in classical music (awarded by the United States Department of State).
