About the event
Heliand Consort presents an eclectic show of music untethered from the norms, with solos for piccolo and vibraphone, a narrated counting piece about cows, a musical illustration of popcorn popping, and a 30-piece wind ensemble performing the New England premiere of "Reliable Sources" by Vermont-born composer, Nico Muhly.
Expect humor and beauty. Relish the diversity and sheer number of instruments: vibraphone, glockenspiel, crotales, tuba, contrabassoon, English horn, piccolo, and so many others to discover!
Enjoy solos and chamber music by Heliand Consort by some of our favorite composers working today: Padma Newsome, Belinda Reynolds, Tawnie Olson, and Valerie Coleman, among others.
The centerpiece is the New England/Vermont premiere of Nico Muhly's new work, "Reliable Sources," a magnificent piece for solo bassoon and orchestral winds, full of shimmering textures.
Heliand's bassoonist, Rachael Elliott, is among the 19 bassoonists who commissioned this piece from Nico, and is privileged to perform the New England premiere in her (and Nico's) home state of Vermont together with a band of outstanding musicians from across the region.
